I heart Current/Elliott

Maybe it's because I've lived in LA for almost seven years now but I practically create every outfit around a pair of great lived in jeans.  Right now I'm all about the denim cut offs, vintage levis are my favorites.  I pair them with ankle boots (Jeffery Campbell of course) and an oversize silk top (Joie is my current fav).  Current trends for this season is quite honestly nothing new. Designers are still running with a 70's feel, trousers and slouchy flares will continue to be a the forefront of the stores. I've been home looking at the collections on the internet tonight and came across the best campaign so far this season.  No surprise its Current/Elliott, my go to for vintage inspired styles. Seeing these looks basically decided my trip into Portland tomorrow to do some try ons.

Designer call out...Kate Towers

Photo Credit: Peter VanBeever & John Mulligan

In two hours I will be leaving for Portland for a long awaited trip home.  When packing for the visit I found old dresses by Kate Towers that reminded me of why I love Oregon so much.  Kate Towers has been one of my longtime favorite designers since visiting the store Seaplane that she co-founded in 2008.  I loved how raw and present everything seemed inside the store, with sewing machines tucked away behind handmade appliquéd curtains and designers fitting one of a kind pieces on young clients. Even now, flipping through her lookbooks on KateTowers.com I am reminded of how her idealic, free spirited designs are reflected in my personal style now.  The store has now moved and is filled with new Portland designers I can't wait to check out during this trip.  You can find select Kate Towers pieces on www.etsy.com/shop/katetowers. Look out for some more designer shout outs this week..

A few of my favorite things...

At the Marina outside my apartment, where moments are spent when not at work.
Wearing my new summer staple dress by Blue Moon.

This season has been all about my Jeffery Campbell's.  My newest pair reminds me of my collection of old cowboy boots  that are stored back at home.  You can find these at FreePeople.com

One of my favorite collections they have released to date.  I love the mix of easy bohemian and downtown edge

Summer is here so time to dress up the apartment with blue and white vintage vase, sunflowers, and Lucy

My greatest fashion inspiration and one of the most captivating and tragic fashion figures.  I loved her androgynous, over exaggerated ballerina looks.  The best book about her is Edie: American Girl by Jean Stein, sad and inspiring at the same time

Dancing in the sand...

Wearing Minnetoka ankle boots, Sanctuary blouse, Madewell denim midi shorts, bracelet & bag vintage

Seal Beach always gives me this nostalgic feeling even though I didn't grow up here.  It is quintessential sleepy beach town with its ice cream parlors and seashell souvenir shops that I remember frequenting during family vacations to the Oregon coast. We walk down main street often, not only for the amazing wine bars and and antique shops, but because it always offers the quiet inspiration I need after the long days in a not so quiet Southern California.  Other highlights in Seal include Nicks, they serve the most amazing and addicting breakfast burritos in the world and it is worth the long waits on Sunday mornings for sure. The authenticity of the antique shops, especially Castle Antiques, where I always find the more special items to add to my growing collection.  Here are some favorites from the night.

Happenings

Shorts Joe's Jeans, Fringe Top Nordstrom, Bag Vintage
A couple of days ago I went to the Lab, known as the "anti mall" in Costa Mesa.  We all gathered to say farewell to Lizzie, a fashion stylist bound for Boston.  As per the usual, everyone met up outside Habana, a cuban bar and restaurant whose laid back, festive vibe makes it the ideal meeting spot after working long retail hours.  The scene at the lab is young, urban and bohemian, a perfect spot for fashion experimentation..

I guess we both love our Jeffrey Campbell's
